Steffan Jones

Exsurgo’s commitment to being a leader in sport science and maximizing the impact of their technology has led to the creation of the Exsurgo Advisory Team. Each member of the advisory panel is an active coach who has been hand-selected based on knowledge, experience, and a desire to improve the field of athletic development. Our advisors provide input on device development, educational resources, and assessment/training protocols.

We are excited to announce Steffan Jones as a member of our 2021 Exsurgo Advisory Team. Coach Jones is a former professional cricket and rugby player turned elite sports performance coach. He recognized early on that the quality of an athlete’s strength and conditioning determines the quality of their technique. He understood that one cannot outrun poor technique. What Coach Jones practiced as a United Kingdom dual athlete, he now emphasizes in his educational platforms. Coach Jones is the Director of Sports Performance at Wellington School in Somerset and he founded Pacelab, an academy for fast bowling.

With a global reach and 2.5 billion fans, cricket is widely viewed as the second most popular sport in the world behind soccer. Being a leader in such an international sport has allowed Coach Jones to coach teams in Australia, India, and the UK, and to influence athletes world-wide.

While bowling is different biomechanically than throwing, Coach Jones’ training can be adapted to any throwing sport. Baseball pitchers and javelin throwers have already found success under his tutelage. He uses a holistic approach that there is no one size fits all. It is about identifying the limiting factors for each individual and designing a program whether that is technical, physical, or tactical.

Coach Jones measures squat jump, countermovement jump, and depth jump weekly with the gFlight and uses the gStrength for mid thigh pull. He stresses that it takes less than a minute per athlete and gives him insight on progress, program effectiveness, and readiness.

"I’m your biggest fan, and might be one of your earliest, because of the simplicity of the devices."
